What is a personal customs code, and how do I order from overseas?
A personal customs clearance code (PCCC, starting with "P") is issued by Korea Customs Service for importing personal items. Foreigners must enter it when buying goods online from overseas; an ARC or passport number isn't accepted instead. What to do 1. Apply on Korea Customs Service's e-commerce customs portal (ecos.customs.go.kr) with Korean identity verification (simple or joint certificate). If you can't verify online, see the portal's visit pre-application menu. 2. Enter your English name, nationality and addresses carefully. 3. When you order, use the same name, phone number and postal code as in your code's record; a mismatch can delay clearance. 4. Codes must be renewed. Check your expiry date on the portal and renew in time, or the code is cancelled. 5. New or updated codes may also need a one-time verification number for each order, sent by email or text. Some shopping sites verify for you. Good to know • Low-value personal items can clear duty-free; above the limit, duty and VAT apply. Check the current limit on Korea Customs Service's page. • Medicine, supplements and food have extra rules. • If someone misuses your code, report it on the portal.
