How and when do I extend my stay in Korea?
Apply from 4 months before your permitted stay ends up to the expiry date. Depending on your status, you apply online through HiKorea e-Application or at the immigration office with a visit reservation. What to do 1. Check your expiry date on your card or on HiKorea. 2. Prepare the application form, passport, residence card, proof of address and the documents for your status (HiKorea's manual by status, or 1345). 3. If your status can use e-Application, apply online on HiKorea; otherwise book a visit. If no slot is open before your expiry date, visit your immigration office before the deadline anyway. 4. Pay the fee; 1345 can confirm the current amount. Good to know • You must be in Korea on the day you apply. • Applying after the expiry date brings a penalty, and overstaying can lead to deportation and criminal penalties. • Pay any overdue taxes or health insurance premiums first; unpaid arrears can limit your extension.
