How do I get a health check-up in Korea?
If you're enrolled in National Health Insurance, you can get the free general health check-up every 2 years (every year for non-office workers), plus cancer screenings by age and sex. Private check-up packages aren't covered. What to do 1. Check whether you're due this year on the NHIS website (검진대상 조회) or by calling 1577-1000 (English 033-811-2000). If you're an employee, NHIS notifies your workplace. 2. Find a check-up center on the NHIS website (기관 찾기) and book ahead. 3. Bring photo ID such as your passport. NHIS's English page has multilingual check-up forms. 4. Finish by December 31; the check-up year runs January 1 to December 31. Missed last year's? Ask NHIS to add you to this year's list. Good to know • Who: employees, regional householders, and household members and dependents aged 20 or older. • Cancer screenings depend on age and sex, and some come with a copay. Extra tests you choose yourself aren't covered.
