Can I work part-time or tutor on my visa?
It depends on your visa. Students need permission before any part-time job, most work-visa holders may work only where immigration allows, and private tutoring by students is strictly restricted. What to do 1. Check the status on your residence card. Some long-term statuses, such as F-5 and F-6, aren't tied to one job; most others are. 2. Students (D-2, D-4): your school's international student office must confirm first, then you need a part-time work permit from immigration before your first shift. Allowed hours depend on your program and Korean level; see the current table on Study in Korea. 3. Work visas: you may work only at your registered workplace. Adding or changing a workplace needs a report or permission (E-2 teachers: report within 15 days), and a different kind of work needs permission in advance. 4. Before you take private lessons or any side job, ask 1345 or your immigration office. Good to know • Working without permission can lead to a fine or prison, and deportation. • 1345 offers counseling in many languages, including English.
