How do I find an OB-GYN, and what pregnancy support can foreigners get?
Find an OB-GYN clinic (산부인과) like any other clinic, and call ahead to ask about English. If you have National Health Insurance, you can get a voucher for pregnancy and childbirth costs, and copays are lower while you're pregnant. What to do 1. Once an OB-GYN confirms your pregnancy, apply for the voucher (National Happiness Card, 국민행복카드) through NHIS or a partner card company. Ask NHIS which channel works for you as a foreigner: 1577-1000, English 033-811-2000. 2. It can also pay your baby's medical costs; ask NHIS for the current amount and validity. 3. At clinics, show your pregnancy confirmation and ask which care gets the lower pregnancy copay. 4. Public health centers (보건소) offer pregnancy registration and support, but eligibility for foreigners differs by district. Ask your local health center. You can also search Verihood for clinics that reviewers say offer English consultation. Good to know • In areas with few delivery facilities there's an extra payment; foreigners must apply for it separately at an NHIS branch with a recent certificate of alien registration. • Some child benefits (parental benefit, child allowance, First Meeting Voucher) are only for children with Korean nationality.
